Best Padel Rackets for Beginners in South Africa
What to look for in your first padel racket, how much to spend in South Africa, and the beginner rackets we recommend right now.

Your first padel racket should make the game easier, not harder. The good news is that you do not need to spend a fortune to get a great beginner racket in South Africa. This guide covers what to look for, what each price range gets you, and a few rackets we recommend to new players right now.
What makes a good beginner padel racket?
- A round shape. The large, central sweet spot forgives off-centre hits while you are still learning to read the walls.
- Low balance and moderate weight. Around 340 g to 360 g with the weight near the handle is easy to swing and quick at the net.
- A soft or medium core and a fibreglass or soft carbon face. This helps the ball leave the racket with less effort and absorbs vibration, which protects your arm.
- Comfort over hype. A pro-level carbon diamond racket will not make a new player better. It usually does the opposite.

How much should you spend on a padel racket in South Africa?
Under R2,000: getting started
Entry-level rackets in this range are perfect if you play once a week or are not sure padel will stick. Expect fibreglass faces, soft cores and round shapes. They are comfortable and durable enough for social play.
R2,000 to R3,500: the sweet spot for most new players
This is where most beginners get the best value. You start to see carbon blends, better build quality and rackets from the big brands that will still suit you once you start playing two or three times a week.
R3,500 and up: for when you are hooked
Premium rackets use higher-grade carbon, refined cores and technology aimed at intermediate and advanced players. Worth it once your technique is consistent, but not necessary for your first racket.
Keep an eye on our padel sale, where last season’s models often drop into a lower bracket.
Beginner padel rackets we recommend
Stock and prices change often, so check each product for the latest. All of these are round rackets, the shape we recommend for your first year.
NOX X-One Blue Casual Range
A classic first racket: round, fibreglass and built for comfort. Easy to swing, very forgiving and great value for weekly social games.
NOX X-Zero Red and NOX X-Zero Blue
Light, round and friendly on the arm. The X-Zero is one of the most popular entry rackets in padel for good reason: it makes clean contact feel easy.
Babolat Counter Vertuo 2.6
A round racket with a carbon face for players who want a little more crispness and durability without losing the forgiveness a beginner needs.
NOX Equation Advanced Hard
A step up for the beginner who is progressing quickly. Still round and controlled, with a firmer feel for players who already hit with some pace.
For juniors: Siux Electra ST3 Junior
Kids should not play with adult rackets. A junior racket is shorter and lighter so they can swing properly and enjoy the game.
See the full range on our round padel rackets page, or use the Racket Finder.
Beginner mistakes to avoid
- Buying the racket your favourite pro uses. Pro rackets are usually stiff, head-heavy diamonds made for elite technique.
- Going too heavy. A heavy racket feels powerful in the shop and painful after a long match.
- Ignoring the grip. A fresh overgrip costs very little and makes any racket feel better in your hand.
- Playing in running shoes. Padel courts are sand-filled turf. Proper padel shoes stop you slipping and protect your ankles.
